My oldest 2 sons are in Cub Scouts and there is a community member that offers their beautiful farm each year to our pack for a Halloween party. This is the main drive to their house that is lined with these trees that get amazing color in the fall.Time
I remember asking one of the farm owners if it was alright for me to do some pictures not long after we arrived for the party. She was more than happy to allow me, it was in the middle of the afternoon around 3:30. All of the boys had gone on a nature hike so I wandered around for a while and saw this.Lighting
It had actually not been a very pretty morning this day, very cloudy and grey. I almost didn't take my camera with me but right before we left home the sky cleared out. The sun was still fairly high at this time of day, about 3 hours prior to sunset. It worked well though, with the combination of shade and light on the leaves.Equipment
I didn't have much equipment yet not even a tripod, so this was shot using my Canon Rebel T4i, and the kit lens 18-135mm.Inspiration
I love fall. The colors, textures, smells, cool temps, all of it. So for me it's only natural to try and capture it for others to experience.Editing
At the time this was taken I actually was so new to my camera I hadn't even ventured into editing. I was still just trying to capture what I was seeing. There were a lot of trashed images! In my camera bag
I have to laugh at this. I am by no means a professional, really I'm still starting out and figuring things out. So currently in my bag is my T4i, still with that kit lens 18-135mm. A remote shutter release, a basic CPL filter, spare batteries, and a spare SD card.Feedback
Fall leaves are such a popular subject. There are so many ways to capture them. Try as many different angles you can, try as many locations as you can. Go for a drive and don't be afraid to stop on the side of a road. Just keep looking for anything that catches your eye. You're going to have images that you trash without a moments hesitation, but you may also end up with one that surprises you.
