I was at the first day of Wimbledon this year and had the chance to photograph some of the players with my 70-200mm lens. It is important to note that lenses above 300mm are not allowed at Wimbledon so I was lucky to have chosen the less powerful lens.

Behind The Lens
Location
I was at Wimbledon for a day of tennis. Thank goodness I didn’t take my 300mm telephoto lens as they don’t allow them in the grounds and was happy I brought my trusty 70-200mm lens. I was fascinated by the whole process of serving and this shot was the final impetus forward after hitting the ball. I like this picture as it seems to me if she was standing still, that she would be perfectly balanced.Time
It was taken on the early afternoon.Lighting
The lighting can be tricky in a stadium; sometimes it’s shady on one side of the court and full on sun on the other side but in this case it was full sun which gave her a bit of shadow to anchor her.Equipment
I didn’t have a tripod as it wouldn’t have been allowed and I was too far away for a flash, so it was just a matter of holding the camera steady. The lens was 70-200mmInspiration
I love taking candid shots of people on the street or in sports so took this opportunity to capture some of the best tennis players in the world in action.Editing
I don’t like doing too much post-processing. I just did basic re-balancing of highlights and lowlights and changing it to black and white to simplify the composition. In my camera bag
I normally carry a couple of lenses (usually a wide angle and a telephoto, a spare battery, lens cleaning cloth, a ND filter, and a polarising filter.Feedback
First of all, I disabled the sound the camera makes when it focuses so people watching the match around me don’t get annoyed. I set it on a fast shutter speed and held the camera steady.
