Behind The Lens

Location

This is a picture of Fiti Rodriguez from band Cafetera Roja, taken at the Fête de la Lutte Ouvrière on may 15th. This was supposed to be in colours until a friend told me that it would look great in black and white. And he was right, it brings something deeper and stronger. The coloured version can be seen here : http://goo.gl/wxDx51

Time

8:30pm, I didn't mean to shoot that concert on that day, I was just going out with my wife and son for some family pictures but their music attracted me so I've taken around 400 shots in around an hour.

Lighting

There was other live concert there but this was the only one with decent lightings. Their music is really cool but the guy at the light desk was good too, it's a real part of the show !

Equipment

I brought my Nikon D750 with a Nikkon 70-200 f:4, I taken all my pictures without tripod thanks to VR, anyway I don't think they would let me get in with a tripod...

Inspiration

At the moment I press the shutter button I see Fiti is looking in the direction of the light, not sure if he's really looking in that direction but I like the result between the lights and the shades.

Editing

With live concerts lightings, post-processing is almost an obligatory stop. Contrasts and saturation have to be adjusted, light levels and clarity too most of the time.

In my camera bag

I always go out with a Nikon D750, a 70-200 f:4, a 24-70 f2.8 and a 50mm f:1.8 along with some accessories

Feedback

I think that the best advice when trying to shoot at live concert is to be not afraid of high ISO, of course there will be some noise but recent cameras handle it really good. High ISO will allow to use high shutter speed that will freeze quick movements when needed.
