This was the first real action photo that I took. The bottom of the engine blew out all over the track putting oil under the tires and it went endo. That is the driver's leg you can see at bottom centre frame and he walked away. While the chassis is vertical to the ground the body is laying down behind it - the body landed where I was standing. I was so lucky my brother in law was standing beside me and almost pulled my arm out of my socket as he basically saved my life. Even though I was standing in the spectator area a good fifty feet back from the track parts and pieces flew everywhere - motor racing IS dangerous. Since I took this in April 1978 I have never topped this crash - it is just so violent. In closing this pic was taken on Kodak Tri-X 1-1000th of a second at f8 on a Nikon F motordrive with 80-200mm 2.8 lens
