I took this photo under the bridge in Florence Oregon, Now this bridge is under construction getting retrofitted and redone for extra protection in case of a tsunami, which is a bummer as the cement in the pilings takes time to age to give it this perfect look. It has moss growing, some algae, and of course when the tide is out, barnacles. All this will now be new again and take years to get to this look of aging. I shot it with my Canon Rebel T3i and was a novice when this photo was taken. Now I am more of a pro.Time
This photo was taken in the early afternoon in summer. Since it is under the bridge abatement the sun is almost directly over top heading out west over the ocean.Lighting
I shot this in landscape. Had to do a little straightening work as I have a severe back injury and I sometimes lean a little to the right and pics come out slightly skewed. No flash involved.Equipment
I shoot 99.9% freehand. Using a Canon Rebel T3i. No tripod, no flash, raw. In the wide angle 58mm that came standard with this camera.Inspiration
I have a good friend who has been at this for several years longer than I have been. She has opened my eyes in becoming a better photographer. She really has an eye for detail and her shots come out amazing. I strive to be better and become more into my camera and my lenses to see the picture before it is shot. I want to continue to learn and grow and just live in the moment every day behind my lenses. Thank you Chris Owen at Off the Edge Photography for being my "bestie" and Photography buddy!Editing
I only straightened and lightened the photo. Both were very small adjustments done with the photo editor that came with my camera. I do not like to have to work a photo so much you lose the raw beauty and power of the original. In my camera bag
I always pack the camera, my 58mm lens, my 55mm-250mm lens, and the 75mm-300mm lens. I shoot with and without the UV filter. My new favorite lens is the canon 55mm-250mm as it has a stabilizer. I carry a separate bag in the trunk with filters, lenses, tri pod, but usually carry the one bag ready to go with extra batteries.Feedback
First off, no one will get this shot for a few years. One, the bridge on this end where the photo was taken has been stripped and they are working on it. I was sadly disappointed as I headed there last month to do a remake of this photo as I have become so much better at using manual settings I wanted another go round. And when they do finish this end of the bridge "Siuslaw river bridge" in Florence Oregon the cement will have a new look about it. I am not sure how many years it will take to get this good "aged" look to it. It is and was originally 78 years old when this photo was taken and is now 80 years old. So that aged look takes time. There is only one other bridge in all of Oregon that has these amazing arches but the view is not as good and that bridge is getting retrofitted too so this shot may be 80 plus years out.
