Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken atop a black coffee table located in the living room in my home. I decided to use the black table as a contrast to the metal in the trumpet.

Time

When I was unpacking from a long day of moving into our new home. I unpacked my childhood trumpet at 10:00 pm and immediately a flood of memories came back from my childhood. I set it on a table and grabbed my camera to unite the old and the new.

Lighting

I used a extremely high tech method of light....my wife holding a flashlight

Equipment

Nikon D90 using 35 mm lens shot at F/16 8 sec. I also used a tripod

Inspiration

After many hours of lifting heavy objects and moving cherished possession into our new home, we finally sat down on the living room floor to eat some Chinese food and I saw the trumpet. I have always wanted to experiment with low key lighting. I had to take advantage of this moment, I shut our black curtains to our bay window and set up the trumpet on the only flat surface that was not encumbered by objects

Editing

No post processing just basic Lightroom adjustments

In my camera bag

now I am using a Nikon D7100. I usually take with me my 35 mm, 85 mm, and my Tokina 11-16 mm lenses.

Feedback

I would advise people that want to experiment with low key light is to use a better light source that you have more control over. A flashlight just does not cut it.
