Behind The Lens

Location

I took this on my back patio, my cat Tesla was laying under a saw horse my husband had set up for some project he was working on. I just got low to the ground and kept shooting images until I got this one.

Time

This was taking mid afternoon. We had a lot of trees in our backyard and this was a cover patio. So a lot of shade for this shot.

Lighting

There was a lot of shade in the area I shot. My cat was laying under a saw horse on my covered patio. We also had a lot of trees in the yard, that provided more shade.

Equipment

I used my Canon 5D Mark III, Tamron 70-200 mm. No tripod, no flash, no reflector.

Inspiration

I love taking photos of my babies, this includes the fury kind. I took this image a few years ago, it is pretty special since Tesla is no longer with us.

Editing

I made the image black and white, I added more clarity and contrast to really make Tesla's pattern in his coat pop. He was really a beautiful cat and very photogenic.

In my camera bag

I carry a lot of equipment. Then again I am your typical woman, I never pack light LOL I never know what I will need on location and I never like not having something...I carry wide range of lenses, Sigma 50mm and 35mm Art, Sigma 85mm 1.4, Tamron 70-200mm, Tamron 24-70mm, Canon 100mm Macro to name a few. I always have my Canon 5D Mark III, plus my film equipment. I love film and use a Canon Newer F1, plus a 50mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.4 lenses for my film camera. Variety of flashes, modifiers, and reflectors.

Feedback

I found with animals, you have to have patience and shoot a lot of images. They are a lot like children when it comes to photographing them. So put your camera on continuous shooting...
