Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photograph in a studio and I tried to replicate a cold winter night.

Time

It was actually a roasting hot spring day. You wouldn't have guessed.

Lighting

The lighting was a little tricky. I used 5 studio lights. Trying to explain where they were situated would take a while to explain.

Equipment

Apart from studio flash, I used a fan for the wind effect. The camera was a Canon 7D Mark II with my standard 18-135mm lens.

Inspiration

I wanted to create a dramatic portrait of one of my friends. I wanted it to look cold and isolated with the model happy about the surroundings.

Editing

I had to add in the snow digitally due to restraints in the studio. Apart from that, it's au naturale.

In my camera bag

My essentials are the camera, standard lens, wide angle lens, flash and bits and bobs.

Feedback

Always do some research. If you find an image you love, it may come with a lighting set up. Copy the lighting exactly and you'll surprise yourself.
