Location
This was taken in my home studio in Wilmington, NC. This studio has been where I've found my passion in photography, playing with shadows. I keep developing my "Art in the Shadows" series.Time
This was a morning shoot.Lighting
This was a simple one light set up that I love using. In this instance, it was to the left and behind her.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 6D, a 24-55 3.5 lens and a hot light on a black background.Inspiration
I love working with shadows, and during every session I try to capture honesty of the model I'm photographing. I love how a simple portrait can convey so much about a person, and this was just her personality coming out.Editing
I used Lightroom to turn the image black and white. In my camera bag
My bag always has way too much stuff in it. I have my 6D, my 50mm prime, 24-55, and 75-300. I usually have my old rebel and a couple of lenses for that as a backup. I also carry 3 flashes, and 5-in-1 reflector. It's pretty rare I use half of what I carry, but it's also never the case that I left something at home.Feedback
I really suggest playing with a one light set-up. Move the light around and keep trying new light positions, height and distance matters too. You can find the look you're looking for, and then if you want to add in some secondary light, it becomes a lit easier.
