It was early spring and the sun was low in the sky with thick cloud coverEquipment
Nikon D700 with 70-200mm lens + 2X converter. NO tripod, Hand held. Lens at full extension, 400mmInspiration
I've been trying to capture the colourful male version of this sunbird and had been sitting at this spot long before sunrise. The female sat on the spot, so I shot it.Editing
Because of the low light, I needed a bit of speed so the image was quite dark and had to be lightened. In my camera bag
Nikon D700 with 70-200mm lens, 17-35mm Sigma D lens, 2X Nikon converter and always my Canon G16. The Canon is always at hand especially when hiking on the mountainFeedback
Patience. Early morning is usually the best light. Where possible try and pre-set your aperture and speed according to the ambient light so that you are ready quickly to catch the shot. Can always do adjustments in Photoshop and Lightroom
