Location
This photo was taken at Palmer, Alaska along the Matanuska River. Just behind me is the old Glenn Highway.Time
This was taken about 4:00 PM. At this time in of year Alaska it was just before sunset.Lighting
The photo was taken during the "golden hour" which means the sun was low in the sky casting warm light across the landscape.Equipment
I used a Canon Rebel XS with Rokinon 14 mm 2.8 Ultra Wide. I didnt have a tripod so I had to use the hood of my car to steady the camera.Inspiration
I love shooting landscapes, I hope my photos inspire others to care about the natural world around them. I was driving around scouting photo locations and the lighting and the trees with the river in the backround looked amazing. I had to stop and take a picture.Editing
I usually try to use as little post processing as possible. For this particular photo I had to fix the white balance because my camera was on the wrong setting. I also added sharpening and some saturation. In my camera bag
I carry my Canon Rebel, My Ultra wide lens, my standard zoom, tripod and remote release. I also carry extra batteries and camera cleaning accessories.Feedback
Always shoot around sunset or sunrise for best lighting. The lower the sun is the light will be warmer and will have less contrast. Its important to capture as much of what you want for your photo in camera. Your attitude toward post processing should be that it enhances your photo, not makes it.
