Location
This photo was taken on the bridge which is a short walk up the hill from our cozy red cabins in Hamnøy. Hamnøy is a small fishing village near Reine, along the Vestfjorden.Time
This was taken at 8:20 in the morning. That does't sound very early but after a long but very exciting night under the aurora it was a bit of a task to get out of my warm bed. It was so worth getting up and seeing the warm light on the mountain.Lighting
When outside for sunrise you don't exactly have any control of the lighting so you just have to adjust your camera settings to suit. Sunrise though is the best time of the day in my opinion.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon 7100 and 17-55mm f/2.8 lens on a tripod. That lens wasn't wide enough for this scene so several vertical shots were taken and then later merged in photoshop.Inspiration
Lofoten is on a lot of photographers must go to places and the village of Hamnøy should not be missed especially at sunrise as light hits the face of the mountain.Editing
This was my first image that I had to merge a couple photographs into a panorama in photoshop. I then used camera raw to apply lens correction, white balance and tone adjustments. It's amazing how white balance can change a photo. I try to remember what the landscape looked at at the time and process to find that.In my camera bag
Since this photo was taken the contents of my bag has expanded. So I have my Nikon 7100 with 17-55mm mounted as well as a Sony A7II with 16-35mm and 70-200mm f/4 lenses. This covers a wide range of focal lengths. In addition to the actual cameras I always carry a few filters - circular polariser, 6-stopper and a graduated filter. Don't forget the lens cloths.Feedback
If you find yourself somewhere that you believe to be worth a shot get out of bed at sunrise no matter what you did the night before. Those mornings tend to be magic even if you are half asleep. Also don't get frustrated at your equipment if you can't fit it all in in one shot. You always have the option to take several shots that slightly overlap and merge them later. It may take a bit of effort and sometimes hard to picture how it will turn out but sometimes it worth it.
