Location
I was on Senja island located in northern Norway and I was hunting for Aurora Borealis. I was looking on the island for a good place to take a picture with good light. I found that place. I came back here three times to catch the best light.Time
When it's a polar night the day is shorter than usualy. In few hoours i can be in the same place for sunrise and sunset. There was no sunset, because the sun dont's shine on polar night. For the third time i came to that place when it was twilight. Twilight at 2pm? It's possible :)Lighting
I've been at this place three time. Every time the light was different. For the first time I found this place in red, for the second time the light was dark orange. But .. for the third time when it was twilight, the light was slightly blue. For me it was the best choice :)Equipment
To take this picture I used my old camera Canon 400D and canon lens 10-20mm. No flash, No filters. tripod was necessary.Inspiration
When I'm on holidays, I always try to find interesting place. I'm tryin to have a lot of time time to easy explore. Never run, always looking around. And always looking for good light. When I found that place I knew that i must come back here. The view was amazing and breathtaking. It was an impulse in my head to take first picture, then second .. and another and another. And in the end just watch and relax.Editing
In fact the post-processing wasn't too agressive. I corrected only tone curve, contrast and little bit of sharpening. In my camera bag
After I made that picture I chanched my camera to full frame option. Now I'm always carry in my backpack Canon 6D and my primary lens wide angle lens 17-40mm f4. My secondary lens is 24-105mm and I'm using that lens when I'm visiting cities or just for walking. third lens in my backpack it's tele 70-200mm f4. I like that lens, because it is so light for travelling. I always ave an tripod. Light or heavy. Heavy tripod and more stable I'm taking when i'm travel with car or train and I can take more lugagges. Light tripod (but also stable) I'm taking when I'm traveling with planes and I have only backpack. In my backpack there is also a pack of filters, always. i'm using polarized filters, neutral grad grey and grey.Feedback
I always say: be patient. Try to plan your shooting, try to plan the light using some application or the internet. Be sure when sun goes down or rise up. if it its possible, try to back to the same place and catch different light. Open mind and simply willingness to travel.
