Location
This photo was taken in an old asylum in Racconigi, a small town near Cuneo (Italy). From 2006 i taken picture in old and abandoned asylum to keep alive the memory and history of these structuresTime
Usually i shoot in the morning because prefer the quality of light. This was taken exctly at 12:51 PMLighting
In these places we can only use natural light . Before leaving for a photographic session i always look at the weather conditions. A cloudy day gives us a soft image, insted a sunny day give us strong geometric line of lights. To give value to the effects of light i, usually, shot 1 stop under with more close shutter as possible.Equipment
When i taken this picture (2011) i shot with an unusual camera: Nikon Coolpix 8800. No interchargeable lenses. So, for this picture, i use only camera and a tripodInspiration
I take picture in abandoned hospitals for 10 years and i try to capture the soul of that places. When i walked into the hall i was captured by its rusted and desaturated colours. The lights created a nice geometric line from the windows but the most important thing is the bed in the middle of the hall. This bed give us a great interpretation of the history of this building: natural lights, neutral colour and an historical piece in the middle of the hall drive me to shot it.Editing
I spend more time to try to capture a better photo instead post processing it. In this picture there have been only small interventions: - little color balancing to create a more neutral ambience as possible - lens correction - little sharpeningIn my camera bag
This' what inside my bags: - camera (Pentax K-r) with lenses (18/55 - 50mm - 28mm and Holga plsstic lens) - a small Manfrotto tripod (MKC3-H01) - Battery - A film camera: Pentax ME Super with 36 pics 35mm film (help me to select the images to be photographed)Feedback
Take your time. Breathe and dive into the history of the place you're going to represent. Before starting a session read something about, it will help you to find more interesting to represent or some historical aspect that may not be forgotten. Listen your heart. Bring a film camera with you and complete (if you can) the 36 shot in the film. This help you to select only the most important image to represent. No flash, go only with natural light and no HDR too. Find historical things to represent the past and the contrast with the present and last but not least Have a story to tell that it is a place, man or event.
