Location
This photo was taken in our guest bedroom. A few little sprigs of lilacs and jasmines from the yard. A newly emerged monarch that we raised from caterpillar on milkweed plants.Time
It was probably early afternoon after the butterfly's wings had unfurled and dried.Lighting
The light from the sun spilling in through the sheer curtains, did a fabulous job back-lighting and filling the room with a soft white glow.Equipment
Shot on the Canon 6d with the 70-200 f2.8, handheld at ISO 2000, 150mm, f2.8, 1/160.Inspiration
The beautiful spring flowers beginning to bloom and the sun shine flooding the room just screamed spring. By coaxing the newly emerged butterfly onto the arrangement, the contrast colors and light happy scene seemed to encompass the feeling of what spring time promises.Editing
Mostly, I lifted the shadows in LR, to bring up the soft airiness of the photo that I wanted to achieve. In my camera bag
Usually I have a couple to few lenses in my bag or on my camera, the 50mm 1.8, 70-200 f2.8 and a Tokina wide-angle 11-16. I nearly always carry my flash, since you never know when it may come in handy. Mine is the Canon 430 EXII along with an inexpensive diffuser. Also, 1 video light and a mini flashlight and business cards!Feedback
Just try different angles and plan on moving around. You cannot control a living creature, so as he climbed around the flowers and exercised its wings, I found myself having to move around to find the composition that worked for me and the butterfly.
