This picture was taken in the S.E. Alaska inside waters near Juneau Alaska. While whales are common in the area, getting a picture from a low level and at the right moment takes a lot of time . In addition to being an amateur photographer, I was also a charter skipper aned was fortunate to be able to "live" with these giants for months at a timeTime
This would have been late afternoon with the tree ljned background giving the reflective color in the waterLighting
because of movement, low speed shutters do not work on whales -- so lighting must also allow a higher shutter speed and depth of fieldEquipment
