Location
This is the former male mountain lion at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum just west of Tucson, Arizona. He has since retired from active life and enjoys a private area at the museum.Time
This particular photo was taken at 11:30 am on October 4, 2012 on a clear sunny day.Lighting
The light was very bright with large shadowy areas I had to get around.Equipment
My equipment for this shot was a Canon 5D Mk II with a Canon EF 400mm f5.6 lens mounted on a tripod. ISO 800, f5.6, 1/500 sec.Inspiration
I had been trying to get this type of shot on various occasions at the Museum. On this date the lion cooperated with me and posed.Editing
The photo was processed with Photoshop CC using Topaz filters to give it the 'painting' look.In my camera bag
Now, I carry a Canon 5D Mk III; Canon 7D Mk II; with various lens and filters. I have just acquired a Sigma 150-600 Contemporary lens for wildlife shots such as this.Feedback
When shooting from distance in a zoo type environment, don't hesitate to use a tripod and up the ISO. Helps to capture clear and concise photos that need little or no sharping.
