Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at home right after I finished taking photos of a friends newborn baby. We had the props out and my boy happened to be playing with this beanie, so we quickly put it on him and snapped away. He absolutely loved it!

Time

The photo was taken mid-morning, still utilizing as much natural light as possible

Lighting

The lighting is all natural. We have big floor to ceiling windows in our lounge room that allow for an abundance of awesome natural light which works perfectly for portrait photos like this.

Equipment

Canon 5Dmk2 and my trusty Canon 24-70 f2.8L No additional flashes, no tripod as I was lying on the ground.

Inspiration

Having just finished taking photos of a newborn baby and seeing my little boy happily playing with this beanie, I couldn't resist putting it on him and capturing the fun he was having.

Editing

There is a little post-processing in this image, mainly colour adjustments and desaturating the image to give it more neutral tones.

In my camera bag

My bag consists of a Canon 5Dmk2 and Canon 50D as a secondary body. Lenses include Canon 24-70 f2.8L, Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS II, Canon 50 f1.8 and a Sigma 12-24 Wide Angle. Flashes are Canon 580EXII, 430EX and a variety of Yongnuo fill flashes.

Feedback

My advice for something like this (baby photography) is to keep it as natural as possible. Have fun, make the baby laugh and feel comfortable, resulting in beautiful natural photos such as this.
