This photo was taken just down stream from the Glade Creek Grist mill replica at Babcock State Park in Clifftop, West Virginia. The mill is one of the most photographed tourist spots in the state and on the day I arrived it was crawling with photographers. After taking the requisite shots of the mill, I decided to venture further down the stream and saw this amazing spot virtually untouched by the throngs of shutterbugs.Time
This was early afternoon, just after a fall rainstorm that left all of the rocks and leaves glistening.Lighting
Due to the overcast sky, conditions were perfect to get deep, saturated colors in both the foliage on the trees and on the fallen leaves on the slick rocks.Equipment
I shoot with the Sony A-77, and this was taken with a Tokina 11-16 with a 3 stop Neutral Density filter to bring out the motion in the water and a circular polarizer to help bring out the color and cut down on the glare. I also used a tripod along with a wireless shutter release, mostly because where I positioned the camera was a little precarious and any little movement would likely have sent the whole kit and kaboodle down the tumbling water!Inspiration
I'm still relatively new to Viewbug, and I have been deeply inspired by the amazing fall photos I have seen on this site and by the work of Joseph Rossbach and his dynamic photos of waterfalls and rushing streams. Also, as a youth I spent countless hours playing in the streams on my grandfather's farm, and photography has become a time machine of sorts, allowing me to return to those carefree days of my childhood where time had no meaning and nature was full of infinite possibilities.Editing
I use Lightroom for all of my post-processing, but this particular photo didn't require much because of the ideal conditions of the day. I just enhanced the colors a bit and brought up the shadows, but that was about it.In my camera bag
I normally have my Zeiss 24-70, Tokina 11-16, Sony 70-300 G and Sony 100mm macro. I also use various B+W neutral density filters and circular polarizers.Feedback
