Behind The Lens

Location

There a lake in Tennessee called Beach lake, that had many feathered residents. I knew of the spot and visited to hope to see the birds and they were there and ready to show off.

Time

It was a bright sunny afternoon when I made a trip to the lake. I wasn’t sure if any of my pictures would turn out usable since it was so bright but I ended up with a few. The photo was taken on September 20, 2020 at 12:19 pm.

Lighting

The lighting was very harsh the day I took this photograph. When I saw the ducks I looked and a few of them had rested under a large tree next to the lake. The tree diffused the light allowing me to take a few shots.

Equipment

This was taken with the Nikon D7500, with a 70-300 mm lens. It was taken handheld with no other equipment.

Inspiration

I had watched a great amount of wildlife photography on YouTube and they inspired me, an amateur, to try and capture the majestic life of animals.

Editing

If bumped up the exposure to make sure the bird was well lit and I sharpened the image to be able to see the small details in the face of the duck.

In my camera bag

I pack my camera, the Nikon D7500 and the 70-300mm kit lens in my bag. I also pack a small notebook for field notes and an extra set of batteries with a small solar charger.

Feedback

“Go in early and stay out late.” I have heard this quote and taken it to heart. You can’t take beautiful shots of your not out with the animals and in their environment.
