Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken along the Willow-Fishhook Road which follows Willow Creek up to Hatcher Pass.

Time

I took this picture as I was taking my daughter for a drive during the early fall in late afternoon.

Lighting

I was looking for locations for photos at later dates as I knew I wouldn't have a lot of time for pictures with my daughter in the truck. I stopped here to take a couple quick shots, when the lighting changed to highlight the yellow cottonwood tree, but the skies in the background were still quite dark.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 7D with a 24-105mm lens and circular polarizer. No tripod was used as I didn't have time for setting one up.

Inspiration

I love taking pictures that include water. The lighting at the time was spectacular, so I spent a few more minutes than I had originally planned.

Editing

Very little post-processing was done, minor adjustment to hue, saturation, and contrast.

In my camera bag

Canon 7D, 24-105mm lens, 70-300mm lens, remote shutter release, gaffer tape (for aurora pictures), extra sd cards and battery, and I often carry a tripod outside the bag.

Feedback

Always be ready as you never know when nature will provide you with a spectacular shot, whether it's lighting or wildlife. Scout locations ahead of time, and be prepared to spend time to get the shot you want.
