In these months of Lockdown I found myself reflecting on the condition of isolation.
I had Covid19 in the worst moment of health crisis, in a city like Milan, where the only audible external noise was the ambulance sirens.
I am sure that all of us, in one way or another, had to deal with new sensations during the lockdown.
Mental dissociation, when not pathology, is a normal psychic function of daily life, an adaptation strategy that is used to reduce anxiety. It is also a method of alienating oneself in pleasant or relaxing conditions: we are dissociated when we are immersed in reading a good book, for example.
Dissociation is a photographic project consisting of a series of self-portraits, taken in all the rooms of the house, of two of me. My intimate scenario in those days, even if represented through images impregnated with a strong magical realism and charged with an obsessive aesthetic research, was dominated by profound restlessness. Each shot is the result of a theatrical performance: the place, costumes, lights and mimicry were chosen with care by a director myself. This was how I exorcised reality and fear.
