Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near my house in Menlo Park, California. It was a spontaneous trip and photograph, but I loved how it turned out.

Time

This photo was taken May 3rd, 2020 at 5:55pm. It was beautiful out, 70 degrees and perfect golden hour sunlight.

Lighting

At 5:55pm, the sunlight reflects in a sort of gold manner, creating the "golden hour". I am self taught and shooting with direct sunlight has proven to be difficult for me, but I tried it anyways for this shot and I loved how it came out.

Equipment

This photo was shot with a Nikon D7500 with a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens.

Inspiration

My siblings and I were driving around, listening to music and having fun. I asked my brother to pull over because I wanted to take some pictures from the car and I noticed the amazing light that was surrounding us. I asked my sister to be in a couple pictures and had her stand up through the sunroof as I leaned out the passenger side window. We had a mask in our car and I had not done any photography using it, so I felt like this was a great time to try it.

Editing

I do all of my post-processing using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, yet for this one, I only used Lightroom. I added a preset, then adjusted the highlights, shadows, texture and clarity a little. I then adjusted the hue and luminance for the blue to get the sky to the color I wanted it to.

In my camera bag

I always cary my Nikon D90, Nikon D7500, then my Nikon AF NIKKOR 35mm f/2D lens which is always on my camera as I love the variety it gives me. I also carry my Nikon AF Zoom-NIKKOR 80-200mm f/2.8D ED lens. I also alway carry my tripod with me as you never know when it may come in handy. I always have 2 extra batteries and at least 4 memory cards.

It's amazing the things you can capture when you have some limitations. Be creative with where and how you get your photographs.
