Location
This photo was taken in Cornwall, specifically in a little village called Lostwithiel. Even though in this photo, you can not see the whole location, I shot by a river surrounded by boats, but thought was unnecessary to show all of it.Time
The time of the day in this photo, it’s not very obvious, but I shot it during a winter afternoon walk.Lighting
I wanted this photo to looks mysterious and wanted to make people look at it from up close trying to look at all the little details e.g the knitting in the jumper. The grey sky helped me to achieve this photo, because it worked as a giant soft box dispersing the light and exposing correctly.Equipment
For this shoot I actually only used my IPhone 11 Pro Max, simply because I wanted to show people that sometimes you don’t need the most expensive camera bodies or lenses to achieve a successful and impactful photo.Inspiration
I was commissioned by a brand to take photos of their jumpers. Inward giving as much creative control as I wanted, but keeping it in the theme of fishermen, because the jumpers were inspired my fishermen wear back in the late 19th early 20th century.Editing
I must admit, I’m rather terrible at post production, so I try to make sure everything is perfect when I look through the camera, juts to save me time later. And when I do try and focus on post production, I try and have fun with layers and contrast adjustments. In my camera bag
If I’m carrying my camera bag, you will find a camera lens wipe, a 50mm lens and a sewing kit, because you never know when you will need to repair your models outfits. BATTERIES! Make sure you always have a spare, cause you don’t want to get to a location and realise your camera is dead.Feedback
The main thing I would advice for anyone trying to shoot something similar it’s think of the concept, what are you trying to show? Is it the clothes? Or the location? Look at other photographers work it’s always helpful because you can look at something in a magazine and think “oh I like the way they shot it” and try and recreate it. My ultimate advice is try and have fun, be creative and play with different angles or locations.
