Location
I took this photograph at Kinderdjik. My son lives in DenHaag but I had already researched this area, which is about an hour from where my son lives. If you are planning to go to the Netherlands go on a website called "Love the Netherlands". There are lots of pointers there.Time
This was taken at about 1 pm on a March day. I was glad that the weather didn't look good, these sort of places are usually buzzing when the weather is good but the photos are always pretty...pretty.Lighting
There are lots of angles for good photographs so lighting position isn't critical providing you are prepared to walk.Equipment
I use a Canon 5D Mark 111 I carry a 24-70mm Canon lens, a 70-200mm Canon lens and a 12-24mm Sigma lens. This covers most eventualities. I have a 400mm with a 2x Converter if I am hunting Birds or Insects but don't carry it normally as it is a beast.Inspiration
The light was hitting this row of windmills just right so you can see the cloth on the sails and the row of windmills gives great depth to the picture punctuated by the canal boat in the distance.Editing
All my photographs are loaded into Lightroom to be inspected and tweaked when necessary. They are also filed and labelled with keywords for easy finding. In my camera bag
If I am hiking around I have all my lenses in Peak Design pouches and clips, having been in the army I am used to carrying equipment like this and, if the equipment is sensibly spread it doesn't impede me.Feedback
Do your homework before you set off. There are plenty of sites on Facebook or Historic sites as well don't worry about duplicating other pictures. Once you are there you can start to put your own stamp on things.
