Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at a local business that uses the crates in the background for their products. This was the first time I’d been to this location! The man featured is my boyfriend. I am a self taught photographer (just started my photography degree a few months ago) and I owe most of my progress to my boyfriend! He is always willing to model for me and try new things!

Time

I took this photo in the afternoon, it was an overcast day as we were just entering autumn.

Lighting

I love shadows, so I really wanted him to be at the end of the alleyway so that you could see shadows but he would be the focal point. If you look at the roof you can see where the sun peaks into the alley.

Equipment

I used my Canon EOS 77D body with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens. I love my nifty fifty lens!!

Inspiration

As I said before, I’m self taught. I also work full time and have little time to actually work towards attracting new clients. My passion for photography is what inspired me to take this photo! I hit a rut with my photography earlier this year and told myself I needed to stop limiting myself just because of time restraints. My boyfriend had work in 20 minutes but I used that 20 minutes to capture some great shots!!

Editing

Yes, I used Adobe Lightroom to adjust lighting, saturation, etc.

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon 77D, Canon 50mm, Canon 24mm, and Canon 85mm in my bag! Along with 3 batteries and many storage cards.

Feedback

Overcast days are my favorite! An interesting background and a friendly face is all you need in my opinion. Pick a background that is nice to look at but doesn’t take your attention away from your subject matter/focal point.
