I took this at my brother’s home, in their living room, with natural light.Time
This was shot in the early afternoon. The boys were in their suits because they were going out for a walk in the buggy. I was busy taking shots of them when my brother appeared in the dressing gown and just got down on the floor!Lighting
The photo was shot with natural light. The room was south facing and had awesome windows that let in so much natural light that nothing else was needed.Equipment
The photo was actually shot on my iPhone 5s!Inspiration
I have been shooting images of the boys since they arrived in the world 8 weeks premature from 6 days old. My brother has a real sense of fun and I was so pleased that he decided to join in. I love this image so much because it captures him so well with his boys.Editing
Adjusted levels slightly to reduce shadows and improve skin tone to match the real soft pink of the boys’ faces. In my camera bag
I usually shoot with a Canon 60D and either my Tamron 18-270mm or my Canon 50mm lens. I often use my phone camera for test shots or quick shots when a moment grabs me. I’m grateful that phone cameras have moved on at a pace!Feedback
With babies and small children, there is a degree of constantly watching and being ready to shoot at a moments notice. Getting height on a shot like this is important as is making sure that your gear is absolutely secure as is your stance, so there’s no risk of injury to the subjects. For me, natural light is so important, particularly when trying to capture spontaneous moments.
