Behind The Lens
Location
We took a series of pictures at Burr Oaks, a park southeast of Kansas City.Time
This was the middle of the day. While we were in a forested are, I fought harsh lighting all day. At points in the shoot, I just let it work for us.Lighting
This image was entirely lit by sun and reflected light to fill the harshest shadows.Equipment
This was early in my career, when I was using an Olympus e420 and an Olympus 50mm macro lens for portraits. The only modifier I used was a reflector for this image.Inspiration
The entire shoot was inspired around the idea that a woman entered the woods, which poisoned her. After every couple wardrobe changes we added more black body paint to show the profession of the poison.Editing
Basic adjustments: shadows, highlights, contrast, white balance, saturation. In my camera bag
I now use a Canon, so I always carry multiple lenses with me. And sunscreen for outdoor shoots. Always.Feedback
Make harsh light work for you!
