Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken off the south coast of Vancouver Island.

Time

It was taken mid afternoon from a Zodiak semirigid hull whale watching boat

Lighting

The sky was overcast for most of our time out, with a few breaks in the cloud cover

Equipment

Canon 80D with a Tamron 200-400mm lens a friend of mine had given me the day before.

Inspiration

I wanted to try and get some shots of the Killer Whales and was hoping for some of the Humpback whales that were also spotted in the area that day.

Editing

Just a crop and a few quick exposure adjustments.

In my camera bag

Canon 80D Canon 24-70mm f4 Canon 70-200mm f4 Tamron 200-400mm f5.6 Canon 50mm F1.8

Feedback

Practice being able to look over the camera for your subject, so you can bring it to your eye quickly when they appear. Choose your focal length before you try and take the shot.
