Location
This photo was taken in an old hay field. He had to jump a ditch and dodge thorn bushes but it was clearly worth it!Time
This was in the evening, early golden hour!Lighting
So there was a nasty storm coming in, we actually almost rescheduled because it was almost 90 degrees, buggy & the storm was threatening close to the time we were shooting. This horse in particular is sensitive to the bugs and will stomp and get antsy if being bitten. But we decided to go for it anyway. I am so glad we did because ended up having the most beautiful light from the storm coming in. Shooting before storms has quickly become one of my favorite times to do portraits!Equipment
Canon 6D & Sigma 50 1.4Inspiration
I strive to capture the connection between horses & humans within my photographs!Editing
Yes, Radial Filters to mold the light, split toning to give the color more mood, dodge & burn on both her and the horse to contour and accentuate. Slight orton effect in Photoshop after lightroom adjustments. In my camera bag

Being calm when working with horses is the biggest thing, you have to sooth them and help them feel at peace otherwise you'll have an anxious horse and likely increase the risk of being hurt. Don't be afraid of the weather! It makes for interesting and wonderful lighting situations!
