I took this photo in my modest basement converted studio. It was a challenge for me because with very low ceilings is very hard to use light. Being a self taught photographer everything I know is from experiment. My basement has no windows either so it forces me to use studio lights. I also hand painted my backdrops and counted with the help of my beautiful friend Nora that modelled for me.Time
This was around 4-5pm. It was just before summer and daylight was starting to get longer. Nora had her French bulldog to grace us during the photoshoot too which was nice.Lighting
This image happened by accident. I was playing with my lights and in one of the clicks one light failed and I got a gorgeous mysterious shadow that I thought is should explore and asked if Nora was up for it and if she would do it naked. She was very nice and accepted without hesitation. The series are wonderful and reminded me of some of Calvin Klein ads. After doing this image I was motivated to create more interesting portraits with my lights.Equipment
I use a Canon 5D Mark IV and a Canon 24-70mm f2.8 II. My lights are 2x flashpoint ad200, 2 softbox umbrellas 40in. C stand to mound the lights. Hand painted backdrops created by myself.Inspiration
I wanted to create an image that would show the female body without revealing anything explicitly. Nora had a beautiful body and it was easy to pose.Editing
Yes, I edited the image slightly with Photoshop CC.In my camera bag
My equipment is simple, I only have two lenses, a 50mm Sigma Art 1.4 and a Canon 24-70mm f2.8 II. My loved Canon 5D Mark IV, some SD and flash cards, a glass prism, external hard drive.Feedback
Experiment, experiment and experiment. See what your favorite artists are doing and try create something similar, don't be afraid to ask questions and try not to be so hard on yourself.
