Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photograph in Yellowstone National Park, although I usually focus on landscape photography, in that park I tried to photograph wildlife.

Time

During the best daylight hours I was doing landscape but during the day we loved to explore and look for wildlife, in the middle of the day I saw this Bison rolling on the ground and I didn't hesitate to take several shots.

Lighting

In this case, more than the light, it is the moment when the Bison lie on the ground to cover themselves with dust and mud, a behavior that increases during the rutting season.

Equipment

I took that picture in 2006, at that time I had a NIkon D610 together with a Sigma 100-400 contemporary lens, not a great quality lens but very versatile and not very expensive for those who are not professional wildlife photographers.

Inspiration

I had seen exciting photographs of Bison in Yellowstone National Park and wanted to take my own even though my specialty is landscape photography.

Editing

Simply develop the photo with Adobe Camera Raw and apply some effects in photoshop with the help of the Color Efex Pro Plugin.

In my camera bag

As of today I have a Sony A7riii with the Laowa 12mm, Sony 16-35 F4, Sony 24-105 and Sony 100-400. I am very happy with it as I have great versatility.

Feedback

For beginners in wildlife photography like me, be patient, the photo will come in the end.
