Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at the Sacramento Zoo. This is Kamal, our male lion.Time
This was taken in the morning, about 10:30 and he was sitting on his rock and had just roared out a morning greeting.Lighting
It was good morning light and the lion was facing directly to the folks gathered to see him through the enclosure screen mesh..Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5D mark IV and a Canon 100-400mm lens at 400mm and hand held. The animal was behind a large mesh screen, thus the need for the telephoto lens.Inspiration
I took the photo because he is a great subject, I liked the lighting around his mane and I could capture his eyes.Editing
Post processing in Lightroom was cropping ad a small amount of exposure reduction and a bit of highlight. In my camera bag
I only have the one body, the Canon 5DIV and two lens; the Canon 100-400mm L and a Canon 24-105 L lens plus a 1.4 teleconverter.Feedback
When shooting animals in the zoo, especially through screens, a good telephoto lens at maximum zoom is always a good ide.
