Our beautiful Staffordshire Terrier-American Bulldog crossbreed was rescued from a neglectful owner who had chained her up outside and used her as a guard dog. Her litter of pups was taken from her, and she was malnourished when they found her.
That's another life to her now, and despite all the suffering she endured at the hands of a human, she's found love and trust in us.

The breed gets a lot of bad publicity because of a handful of irresponsible people; owners and meddlers alike, the dogs shouldn't be held responsible for the actions of ignorant people! Sky is gentle and playful, and only gets defensive when she feels like one of us is threatened! Thank you!

Location
I took this photo just outside my home in Buckinghamshire, I was sat outside with the dogs.Time
About 3pm, early afternoon, it was one of those lovely overcast days.Lighting
I like to keep the lighting in all my shots as natural as possible. The sky was overcast when I took this, which threw this lovely gentle light over Sky's face.Equipment
My only camera, a Canon 70D, and a brand new lens, a 50mm prime f/1.8 that had arrived earlier that day, I was dying to try it out.Inspiration
A new lens had just arrives, one I had been very excited to get my hands on, so I was taking pictures of just about everything. Stuff around the house, random trees and plants, just to see what the lens could do and what I could do with the lens. Sky was looking up at me and I suddenly realised that I'd been so busy playing with my new toy that I'd stopped giving her my undivided attention which was, to her, totally unacceptable. She's very jealous. So I turned the camera to her to show her I hadn't forgotten her.Editing
Minor adjustments in Lightroom, push the whites up a little, bring down the darker areas, I really love my photos to have a nice high contrast, that's what I enjoy looking at.In my camera bag
Usually just my camera, a 50mm prime, and a 28-135mm f/5.6 that a friend and mentor of mine gifted me for my birthday this year. She'd had it since 1997, I couldn't believe it when she gave it to me. It's my favourite lens.Feedback
Before I started taking pictures I used to hate overcast days, I think that's normal actually, so dreary... Now I love them. They throw a really soft, even light over everything, it's great for taking pictures of people or, in this case, animals. To get the kind of detail this picture has, I had to get quite close, which was possible because of my relationship with Sky. A stranger probably couldn't have taken this picture without upsetting her. If you're going to take pictures of animals this close up, maybe try to get to know them a little first, just to be safe.
