Location
Kenton on Sea. It is a small town on the coast of South Africa.Time
23:40pmLighting
This was taken from the Car park which has street lights that lightened up most of the foreground.Equipment
Canon 600D, EFS 10-18mm Canon Lens and a Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
Usually i stay indoors when there is lightning... im dead scared of it! But thought it was worth getting out the house to try capture it since the lightning was further out at sea! At first there weren't any rays coming from the clouds so i took a few shots of just the light flashing and thought i would just go home until i saw a ray. I Tried a few exposures and captured this beauty with a few others of the same scene. The Rays were short lived so i was lucky to get these photographs.Editing
I used Adobe camera raw to process this photo, changed the white balance closer to Tungsten, did some cropping, exposure & contrast adjustments, brought the highlights down a bit and a touch of clarity. I also desaturated the foreground a little. In my camera bag
Canon 600D with my 10-18mm wide angle lens, 75-250mm Telephoto and a Standard kit lens. My back up nikon d3000 for infrared photography and occasionally my vintage nikon lenses with mount adaptors which i use on my Canon.Feedback
Just be careful when the lightning is heavy and close by and stay away from power lines. In extreme situations i have set up a tripod in the car with the window open and try get the best vantage point that i can within the car with some good results.
