This photo is part of a serie of 5 images and has been taken in my studio in Haarlem, the Netherlands.Time
This series has been made in my spare-time, for me that means working in evenings. No matter how much work you've got to do - plan your own projects in between! It really helps to keep the creative juices flowing.Lighting
I really wanted to focus on the facial features - and keep the lightingscheme simple for this series. One light from the top - and that's it. Little vignetting as an extra addition to keep the eye even more focussed on the face.Equipment
I used my trusty Nikon D300 on this series, together with a Bowens Gemini 400 flashead. Attached a simple softbox to it - and that's it. No tripod used this time; I find tripods often limiting my flexibility to move around the subject to find the perfect framing.Inspiration
This image is part of a serie of five images based on the lyrics of the band 'Live' - The Beauty Of Gray. I wanted to show that - when you hide our skincolor - underneath we are all the same. Five people of different nationalities litteraly covered in gray 'paint'. "This is not a black and white world To be alive I say that the colours must swirl And I believe That maybe today We will all get to appreciate The Beauty of Gray"Editing
I wanted to keep this images almost as 'raw' as they came out of the camera, so I didn't do alot to them. I changed the background with Photoshop and added a little vignetting and contrast in Lightroom, but that's about it.In my camera bag
It truly depends on the job - but usually I pack the Nikon D300 along with a couple of lenses (20mm, 50mm, 85mm - all Nikkor) and a speelight just in case. Additionally (when appropriate) I pack the Bowens Gemini 400 kit with Pocketwizzards and a Manfrotto tripod.Feedback
Make a plan - and stick to it, but not to tight; it's always improvising along the way :)
