I drove out south of Great Falls, MT to capture this image. This was going to be one of the last clear nights of the year that you could see the center at this high of latitude. It was amazing to be out and even though I had inferior equipment for taking a shot like this. It turned out great. I just love the beauty that is out there and just to see it in full splendor, takes my breath away.

Superb shot there! How did you set up your equipment? I'm struggling to capture the stars suitably :(.

This is actually two shots stitched together in lightroom. I used the same settings of 12800 ISO, f4, and 30 second exposure. I know sounds long but it works. I wish that I had a different lens for this just to have more light in there. Also the other thing is having something to shoot at. :) As this happens only for a few months out of the year here in northern USA. But the best settings for capturing stars is around ISO 2000. Then you can mess around with the shutter speed. Hope this helps!
