Location
The photo was taken during an Iceland holiday in March 2016. It is a close-up of a part of the river Hvítá, a glacier river in the south-west of Iceland.Time
I took the picture in the evening of 30 March 2016.Lighting
I wanted to capture the blues and whites of the river. And I especially wanted to show details of the icycles and, at the same time, have some blurred water because I love the juxtaposition of sharp ice and blurred water.Equipment
The picture was taken with a Pentax K-5, an SMC Pentax-FA 80-320 mm at 108 mm, f/11, ISO 80, -2 steps exposure compensation, with 3 seconds exposure. I used a tripod and a Formatt Hitech filter, but I can't remember which one.Inspiration
My husband and I were scouting the area for a good spot to return to at night to take pictures of the aurora borealis. I was impressed with the colours. The river was full of intense blues and whites that stood out from the surrounding landscape. My husband and I took turns in taking close-ups and wider-angled photos of the locations we visited, and, on this day, it was my turn to do the close-ups.Editing
I used the raw file and adjusted for white balance and levels. In my camera bag
I have my Pentax K-5, an HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro, an SMC Pentax-DA 70mm F2.4 Limited, the 18-55 mm kit lens that came with the camera, a remote control for the camera, a GPS adapter, my Formatt Hitech filter kit (Ken Kaminesky edition), some cleaning tools, SD cards and a tripod.Feedback
Iceland is an amazing country and has so many fascinating landscapes that make you feel like you are on another planet. The weather can change within a few minutes - you can have sun, wind, snow, rain and clouds all in one day. If you go on a trip around the island, you should always keep your eyes peeled because there is natural beauty around every corner. Often, you come across stunning views that, without warning, take your breath away.
