Location
This was shot in my home studio.Time
It was around 1-3pm, but since it was in the studio, the time of day makes no difference for this image.Lighting
I used a strip softbox with a grid for the model. The background was lit with two strobes, one on each side. One must use caution and place the model far enough away from the background, to prevent light spill.Equipment
I used a Mamiya DF camera body with a Leaf Aptus II-7 digital back (33mp) and 80mm lens.Inspiration
I had always seen bodyscapes and art nudes on black, low key, or otherwise lit only for the shapes. I decided to try something different and create an art nude that features the chiaroscuro and shapes of a traditional art nude, while appearing as a high key image.Editing
I removed a few spots/marks on the model. In my camera bag
In my big camera backpack, I currently have a Phase One XF camera body and an IQ250 digital back. I have 4 prime lenses- 35mm, 55mm, 80mm, and 210mm. There are some extra batteries, the charger, and some lens cleaning supplies. In my typical location shoot, I would have 2 Alien Bees, Vagabond Lithium portable power, and a 35” octabox (sometimes substituted for the beauty dish). And then the obvious stuff…stands, cords, wireless triggers, etc.Feedback
For anyone who would like to try this technique, the setup steps are relatively simple, but achieving an excellent final image is where it gets tricky. Simply, light the subject as you would for a traditional bodyscape, except use a white background lit appropriately and use flags or similar light blocking tools to prevent light spilling onto the subject (thus ruining the fine lighting you have orchestrated for the subject.)
