Location
I took this photo on a roadtrip from Bucharest to Tulcea, my home town. I go there from time to time to reconnect my roots and escape the big city.Time
As usual I drove this trip by night. There is less traffic and less police on the road to ruin my trip. The road at night can have a mystical feel to it if you're playing the wright music on your stereo.Lighting
That night, on the road, was incredibly bright, with clear sky and full moon. The trees were casting shaddows on the road and the snow was reflecting light. I had the tripod in the trunk so I just stopped the car on the spot.Equipment
I took this shot with my trustfull Ricoh GR, a pocket camera wich I carry around for this kind of situations. It uses a fix focal lenght of 28mm f2.8.Inspiration
After snapping a few shots arround, I noticed the Orion constellation right in the direction I was heading. This has great segnificance to me as a few years ago, while I was working in Mexico as a reasort photographer, I found that every time I was looking at the sky, I head the Orion over my head. I decided to take it as a sign and from then on Orion is showing me the path.Editing
In this case there was no editing needed, but maybe I brightened the image by one stop just to make it pop a little better. In my camera bag
I am used to swiching gear quite often depending on the sittuation. Now I use a Nikon D300s with an oldschool 80-200mm f2.8 (the metal one from 1997), a 17-55mm f2.8 and a couple of f1.8 primes, 50mm and 35mm.Feedback
The best advice for this sittuation is "have a tripod on you". This is the only key to taking good night shots. Of cource it helps to have a camera that can expose a frame for 300 seconds, as I did for this shot just to keep a tight f stop and get a larger depth of field. More details, more pleasure.
