Location
This photo was taken at the Fifty Point Conservation Area in Grimsby Ontario Canada. This is one of my most visited locations year round, it always offers something new.Time
This photograph was taken late in the day, shortly before sunset. The water was calmer than normal and the extra long exposure (over 4 minutes) really adds to the glass like water surface.Lighting
The lighting was all provided by mother nature, she does an amazing job. :)Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D600 and my Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8. Camera settings were 42mm, f/22 and ISO50 for this 242 second exposure. The camera was sitting atop my Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 carbon fibre tripod and 488RC2 ball head.Inspiration
We come to this location year round but winter is one of my favourite times to visit. The ice was less in evidence this year due to the strange/mild winter, but will still managed to visit at one of the best times for it. We stuck around for a sunset, but this was my favourite image from the trip.Editing
This image is the result of a single long exposure. I shot in RAW and then processed this image in Lightroom to adjust colour balance and lighting. Photoshop was used for any necessary clean-up, there wasn't much required in this case.In my camera bag
My backpack contents are constantly changing. At the moment you will find a Nikon D800 along with my Nikon 17-35mm and 24-70mm lenses. Depending on the location, a Tamron 150-600mm can also be found taking over the majority of the center of the bag. Along with the above, I always carry various lens filters (ND16, ND110, graduated ND and polarizer) and of course the prerequisite accessories such as, remote shutter release, spare batteries, lens caps and a small flashlight. Depending on the time of year, you may also find bug spray or Heat3 gloves, toque and hand warmers.Feedback
Practice your long exposure technique to find what works for you. I always use ND filters for my long exposures to lengthen the duration. For skies, this will increase and smooth out the movement and for water it can smooth it to a glass like surface like this.
