I took this photo on the Atlantic Ocean in Westhampton Beach, New York in November 2015. The wind was incredible and tried to stay on the wet sand to minimize the blowing sand and sea spray.Time
It was pre-sunset with no cloud cover and very strong sunlight and reflected natural light on the water and the sand.Lighting
I wanted to catch the light and the wind on the surf and the gulls for additional interest and movement. The sky was 'boring' to me so I was on my knees to shoot!Equipment
I used a Canon Power shot bridge camera SX520HS hand held. I set the exposure compensation to-2/3 to compensate for the bright glare of the sun setting over the beach. ISO 100; TV shutter speed/Aperture 5.6Inspiration
Looking to change up my sunset and light on water shots I decided to try to focus on the light and elements through the waves and moving water. I really am pleased with this capture of light and movement!Editing
Minimal light exposure to reduce some glare. In my camera bag
A lens cleaning cloth and always a soft chamois cloth to dry & dust off my camera of sand and salt water on the beach.Feedback
I find a setting and keep returning to the spot all seasons, different times of day and light & weather conditions. It is a constant learning curve to shoot in these natural environments and I enjoy the challenge along with the excursions!
