Location
This photo was taken at Bedok Reservoir, Singapore.Time
The golden hour is the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset during which the light is redder and softer compared to when the sun is higher in the sky. And this photo was taken around evening 7pm, this is often the best time for taking landscape photos since the light has such a wonderful quality.Lighting
When I take photos closer to midday, the resulting images can have very harsh shadows and high levels of contrast, especially if I’m shooting in strong sunlight. In most cases this doesn’t look good. A much better time of day to take photos outdoors is during the golden hours (also known as magic hour, especially in cinematography). This kind of light occurs just after the sun rises and just before the sun sets. The golden hours are my favorite time of day for taking photos, and this is when most professional landscape photographers choose to shoot.Equipment
This photo was taken by used of Canon 5D mark 3 with UWA lens Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II.Inspiration
I’m not a religious person, but i find a sense of power, of something greater within nature. As such I love spending time with nature, just being, feeling and breathing.Editing
I use Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6 extensively on all my images. I’ll start with RAW processing for CA removal and slight cropping if necessary, and for highlight control and white balance correction. Once those are done, I’ll move to Photoshop and apply a gradual contrast enhancement process using luminosity masks, to compensate for lack of contrast in some of the lighting condition I shoot in.In my camera bag
I like to carry light, so normally inside my camera bag will be packed with a Canon 5D Mark 3 Body, 16-35mm f2.8L II UWA lens and Fisheye 8-15mm f4L. Others accessories such as extra battery, memory cards, remote shutter, filters set and a stabile Gitzo Traveller tripod.Feedback
Don’t be in so much of a rush that you fail to use good technique, but remember that you’ve got a relatively small window in which to take advantage of this gorgeous light. Know your destination, have an idea of what subjects you want to shoot, and calculate precisely when the golden hour occurs where you live. Changes in lighting during the golden hour occur pretty fast; the landscape you shot when first arriving at your location will probably look significantly different 10 minutes later. So keep shooting for the whole hour and be sure to capture as many variations as possible.
