I really like the lines. This young lady is very curvy making for a line that draws your attention from top to bottom. I love what you have done with this subject. Very well done.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in a photography studio in Melbourne. I hired out the studio for 2 hours of shoot to create some art work i had been thinking about.

Time

July 24, 2015 - 4:48pm Melbourne Time. This shot was taken during a shoot of about 2 hours with Kiko Berry who is a professional boxing coach. We were trying different posing styles on the lines of fine art nudes. I took a few clicks in this pose to get the best composition. I believe in right composition out of the camera rather cropping the photos after.

Lighting

The shot was taken with 2 bowens 500R lights setup. One light on a 100cm octabox on the right of the model from above and one small softbox on low power angled in a way to use only one of the softbox walls just for a fill light.

Equipment

The shot was taken with Canon 5D Mark III with a 70-200 2.8F II and on a focal length of 90mm with aperture F16 and exposure 1/125I

Inspiration

I very rarely shoot fine arts nudes. It was an amazing day where i had 3 shoots starting from 8am.. on a time slot of 2 hours with each model.. This photo was taken in my last shoot of the day with Kiko Berry. We discussed the shoot before hand and we were after some sensational photos on fine art lines. This was the first time i worked with Kiko... I started shooting with natural light to get some softer looks as planned but looking at her shapes and muscular tones i decided to switch to studio lighting. I must say Kiko is totally amazing to work with and with very minimum directions we managed to take some great shots.

Editing

Yes, i do my post processing all by myself. The shot was taken on a white paper background which had a lot of dirt and spots from previous shoots. So i had to clean up the floor a bit. Rest i used mostly dodge and burn to clean up the skin a little bit and improve the colour tones.

In my camera bag

Canon 5D Mark III with 7-200 F2.8 II lens. I always carry my Bowens 500R Twin kit and my 100cm octabox.

Feedback

For me photography is all about highlights and shadows. If you know how to set your lighting to get the best highlights and shadows in the right areas of your subject.. that is what produces best photos. I always recommend to experiment and practice different lighting setups. This lighting setup was a trail which tool me a bit of time to set as well. Had to arrange the over all power on the strobes. I would say think out of the box and try lighting setups which you have never tried before.
