Location
This photo is taken at Albuen, a beach near Nakskov, Denmark. I am a self taught photographer and the last 10 years i has been interested in photography. I have been a professional soldier in the Danish army for 8 years and had 4 tours, but after i got PTSD, i had to find out what i would do now. Within the last two years photography has become my big passion and i am dedicated to get the best out of the picture. It shall give the viewer a feeling of the mood and soul in the photo and see the details. In the same time i find peace in photography, and also use it to force my self to meet new people in my little studio.Time
This was taken in the evening at sunset. The time was 19.40.Lighting
I did not use any external light. My settings where f/20, 1/125sec, ISO 100, 28mm,Equipment
I only used my Canon 7D with a Canon EF 24-70mm f/4.0 mounted.Inspiration
I was actually looking for some plants and rocks at the beach. As i was began to be dark, me and my step daughter Xandra was on our way back to the car so we could drive home, as i looked to the side over the water and here i stopped and said "wouw" to my self. This could be a great picture.Editing
As it is a landscape photography and it was taken hand held, i had to make some improvements ind Photoshop. I first of all removed some mosquitos that was in middle front of the picture. Hereafter i sharpened it and removed a bit of noise. At last i did some improvements of the color to give it a more correct whitebalance. In my camera bag
Today my camera bag contains my new Canon 5Ds as main camera and my Canon 7D as backup. Both of them has battery grips mounted. Of lenses i have my Canon EF 70-200mm f/1.8L II IS USM, a Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM, and a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8. I have some neutral density ND filters for Cokin P, a camera rain cover, two 32GB Lexar Professional SD SDHC memory cards and a Sandisk 16GB CF card. Of light i have a Meike MK-14EXT Macro TTL Ringflash and two Canon speedlite 580EX II Flashgun. I also carry a Velbon tripod. All of it i carry in a National Geographic NG5162 Earth Explorer DLSR Camera bagpack.Feedback
When you are in the nature and would take some great landscape photos you first of all must have patience and good time. The best time of the day is early morning right after sunrise or lave evening just before sunset. This will give you the best light for a landscape photography. This shot was a lucky one as i saw it at my way home, but out there when you have found a good location and can see the picture in your head it is just to wait for the right moment. The clouds changes all the time, cover for the sun and two seconds later the sun is back. I would normally use my tripod and set my camera to 1/50sec or lower, this to make some dramatic in the clouds and make them living. As i do not yet have acquired a remote control (it is on my wish list) i set my camera to 2 sec timer to avoid the camera to shake when you push the timer. In post processing i find, that it is almost every time necessary to make som changes/corrections when it is about landscape photography. And why that? because you can not control the light 100% outdoor as you can in a studio, and there might be some subjects who comes in the frame as you might want to remove or improve. I wish you good luck with you next landscape photography, and remember, you might not got way you want this time, but then you get it next time!
