Location
This photograph was taken in St. Augustine, Florida.Time
I took this picture in the evening (around 7:00 PM).Lighting
I chose to use natural lighting and positioned the sun behind the scene for a silhouette effect.Equipment
I shot this handheld with my Nikon D80.Inspiration
I was staying at a hotel near the beach and it was really cold inside so I wanted to go outside to warm up. I took my camera with me outside and noticed that the lens had fogged over. I spotted this scene and wanted to see what kind of effect I would get if I shot it anyway.Editing
I did very minimal editing in Photoshop (just an adjustment on levels and contrast). In my camera bag
I keep my SB-800 flash with one of several different diffusers with me all the time just in case I need it. I usually take macro shots, so I can't be without my macro setup (Quantaray 70-300mm lens with Raynox DCR-250) and sometimes extension tubes. I also like to keep at least one 50mm prime lens, a telephoto lens, and a fisheye lens as well.Feedback
I have heard that you can use Vaseline on your lens (I would probably use a filter on top so your lens doesn't get damaged) to get a soft focus effect. Mine fogged up, but you could probably easily use this technique instead. Position the sun behind the subject for a silhouette effect.
