Thank you everyone - this is under the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska. The blue is the actual roof of the ice cave. When I took this image, I had to literally crawl under areas in the ice to get to this location. Now that we have had a really warm summer and warm winter I can clearly walk under the entire area. Check out some of the more recent images to see how much the cave has changed. I doubt that the cave will last more than another year and a half before it caves.

Beautiful photo, you are definitely brave to climb under a glacier. I wonder if that's what the cavemen they found like the ice mummy's were doing when they got frozen..;) congrats of getting in the finalist

How something so abstract can be so real. What a great shot. (Do you ever shoot in warm water?) your series on this subject has been so enjoyable to view. Congratulations.

Again -thank you so much - to be a finalist is super cool!! And I appreciate everyone's likes and comments. We went out to the caves again yesterday, 2.22.14 and the cave still changes, even in winter. The water which once flowed now sits frozen yet you can still hear the water running underneath. where the water dripped from the ceiling there are now frozen columns of ice. It is still ultra blue and now very wide. The hole, or moulin, above this shot is now super wide. Here you could possible pass thru a person or two. Now you could toss in a whole truck. It's still more than 100' deep/thick, and just really neat to see. I hike up once ever week or so, so keep looking for changes in the images. Carol
