Location
This photo was taken in Scotland on the Isle of SkyeTime
It was late afternoon and the sun had just broken through a hole in the cloud cover. The cow was enjoying the brief moment of sunshine and allowed me to get close with a wide angle lens.Lighting
This is one of my favorite natural light situations where an afternoon thunderstorm had rolled through and the dense cloud cover had begun to dissipate giving me a well lit foreground and subject with a brooding sky above it.Equipment
Shot using a canon 550d with a kit 18-55mm lens. Hand held with natural light onlyInspiration
The combination of interesting subject, unique weather conditions and being in the right place at the right time.Editing
Not much in the way of post processing for this image. Nothing more than contrast and sharpness adjustments using Lightroom. In my camera bag
I've upgraded cameras since this photo was done and now carry a canon 5d mk 3 with a 24-105 zoom and a Tamron 150-600 lens, tripod and remote trigger when I go out for a shoot. I find I can cover most situations with this equipment and next on the wish list is a wider angle zoom.Feedback
Take photo opportunities as they come is my best advice. Many times I've seen a nice scene and thought I'd return later to photograph it only to find conditions very different and the opportunity lost. This is even more important when traveling as even the chance to return to a particular place is not possible. So, take the photos when you see them because even though you can return to a place, you can never return to a time!
