Location
This photo was taken this December in Wisconsin. We really wanted a dreamy winter backdrop, but with no snow on the ground we had to find a new location! Our local ski resort let us use the top of one of there hills, AND they happen to have the snow going! YAY!Time
As always I shoot early morning or late evening for best lighting. The day was overcast so we were able to pick later morning.Lighting
The lighting was great under a cloudy sky, no extra lighting needed. I never use flash in my photos!Equipment
Canon Mark lll, Canon 70-200 lensInspiration
The snow was softly falling, the lighting was so magical and she was like a little angle herself. We were actually at the shoot for her Step Mother's maternity photos, but how could I resist not grabbing one of the big sister alone! :) She was a wonderful model!Editing
I did a lot of post-processing in Photoshop. Muted colors, blurred the edges a tad, added a few more snowflakes and grey gradient layers. I also decreased the exposure to make it a little more dramatic. In my camera bag
Canon Mark lll, Canon 70-200 lens, Sigma Art 50mm. These are my favorites! I always bring my backup Canon 40D and Flash, but never use them :)Feedback
I love snow shots on a cloudy day, and when it is snowing if possible! There are many actions you can purchase to add snow, but they are never as good at the real deal! Shooting wide open with the 70-200 lens will give you a clean and blurred background drawing your eye to the subject you have in focus.
