Location
This was "captured" (sorry) at Edinburgh Zoo, on a family day out. When I say a family day out, I mean that my family may have been there somewhere, but if I have a camera with me, then I am guilty as charged of not paying them enough attention!Time
This was just before feeding time, and he was getting a little peckish, I thinkLighting
Natural daylight for this, the difficulty was in cutting out glare, as it was shot through extremely thick, grubby, smudged plexiglass. A nightmare to process.Equipment
This was shot handheld through the perspex with my Canon 7d and an old Manual Auto Chinon 135mm f2.8 lens lens. Real cutting edge stuff.Inspiration
The Jaguar has to be one of the most majestic of creatures and one of my favourite animals. I would love to have the opportunity to see one in the wild, but as yet, this is as close as I've been able to get, so it'll do for now.Editing
The post processing on this was mostly done in Lightroom, dodging & burning, with photoshop used to clone out the glare and smudge marks from the perspex screen,of which there were more than I would have liked. In my camera bag
My Canon 7d, which has had a 2nd lease of life through Magic Lantern firmware......Canon/Nikon etc. take note, they provide the features that should be built in already. 18-55mm kit lens, nifty 50mm 1.8, A Sigma 10-20mm, and Canon 75-300mm is. All boringly cheap and cheerful stuff, really. I'd love to afford some better gear, but the kids have to eat. :0) I also have a Fuji X-Pro1 with 18-55mm f2.8-4 which I love and will be looking to change to Fuji as soon as possible. I love the Fuji colours and look. I did have an S2 Pro, then an S5 Pro, which was stolen and I did miss it, but the x-Pro 1 has more than made up for that. The jpegs straight out of camera are great & I just shot my first wedding entirely with it.Feedback
Just go out and shoot as much as you can, whether it moves, or not. I'm not a wildlife photographer, but look for patterns in an animal's movement, try to pre-empt them and be ready when the opportunity presents itself. They won't wait for you! P.S. Take the lens cap off.
